I have been writing about food lately and found a few similar stories that have captured my heart and made me take a journey down memory lane.

The first story is about Sweet Sour Pork.

It is a dish which makes me think of home when I am away for a long time. It’s also a dish which you can be easily found in Chinese restaurants all over the world.

It’s a dish which requires a delicate balance between the tangy sourish taste and the sweetness from the sugar and tomatoes.

For some, it’s a legacy pass down from generations to generations and in Yan Huang’s story, it’s from her grandma to her mother.

Check out her heartwarming story below.

The next story is from Bond Wang from China, Xian — the famous place where terracotta soldiers were discovered.

Xian was a surprise to me.

While I expected to see the thousands of soldiers dug up for display, I did not expect to find so many delicious local street food.

The short food trip ended up more memorable than the terracotta soldiers.

Here is China noodle making is a serious art, something which I always look for during my stay there.

It’s rare for most of us to find vinegar in noodle soup. But it gives this noodle dish an exquisite taste.

The sharp sourish acid from the vinegar elevates the flavours of soup and helps to give this noodle soup an extra edge.

Check out Bond’s story of below.

Finally, a post written by Mukundarajan V N.

His post is not about introducing culinary food but it is about the current situation of my country’s lockdown.

The citizen in Malaysia came together to channel food aid to the lower-income people who have lost their jobs or business because of the prolong Covid-19 situation.

An initiative called ‘Bendera Putih’ — White Flag started by an engineer, allow the poor to raise a white flag to ask for help without losing their dignity.

Since then, long queues of people have appeared around food banks. Single parent and street hawkers have raised the ‘white flag’ to ask for help.

The current Covid situation at home is disheartening but I am proud that Malaysian came together to support each other.

Side note for readers

A shout out to Linda Caroll, for suggesting this initiative to support other writers and see if a trend picks up.

The intention is to give more attention to the great writing we all stumbled upon, instead of the usual “How-to-make-$xxx” or “I-did-not-get-my-bonus posts”.

If you like to give shout-outs to 3 pieces that have shaped your thought, here’s how you can do so.

  • Write a post called “3 things worth sharing”
  • Use the 2 tags “Sharing” and “Three Things”.
  • The rest of the tags is up to you.
